Adding Rectangles

The Rectangle Tool button on the Utility Toolbar is used to add rectangles in Entry Mode. Rectangles are often used when entering site attributes, such as building pads. Below are the steps for adding a rectangle.

Select the Rectangle Tool button. The arrow changes to the cross hair.

Move the cross hair to one the location of one of the proposed corners of the rectangle.

Press the Left Mouse button once to initiate the command.

Move the cross hair away from the first point to draw the approximate size of the rectangle.

Press the Left button again to add the rectangle. The Add Rectangle window displays.

Change the Width and Height of the rectangle as needed and press OK to close the window.

Entering Rectangles Parallel to an Existing Line

More often the not, the roads and pads of a job site do not run exactly North-South and East-West. Earthwork 4D can enter data by temporarily changing the coordinate system based on a line segment that runs parallel to the data to be entered. Any rectangles drawn subsequently will follow this new coordinate system. Below are the steps to entering a rectangle parallel to existing data.

Place the arrow over a line that is parallel to how the rectangle will be entered.

Press the F12 Key on the keyboard. The line displays a yellow diamond at each end. The job is now setup to use these coordinates for data entry.

Select the Rectangle Tool button.

Move the cross hair to one the location of one of the proposed corners of the rectangle and press the Left Mouse button once to initiate the command.

Move the cross hair away from the first point to draw the approximate size of the rectangle. Press the Left button again to add the rectangle. The Add Rectangle window displays.

Change the Width and Height of the rectangle as needed and press OK to close the window.

The Q Key on the keyboard changes the job back to its original coordinate system.
