Snapping in Edit Mode

Elevation Snap

Snap can be used to assign elevations to points and lines. Select the desired line(s) to assign the elevation then press the F9 key to snap to the nearest elevation point or data line you wish to apply to it. If the selected point is on an annotation line the whole line is assigned that elevation. If the selected point is on a three-dimensional line only that point is changed.

Auto-Increment Snap

The Auto-Increment snap is used to assign elevations to annotation (two-dimensional) contour lines. Follow the steps below.

  •

Make sure that nothing is selected. Press the Left key once over any selected data to deselect it.

  •

Find two contours that have elevation in the increment you wish to assign. For example; to start assigning at 250 going up in one foot increment you would need a 248 and a 249 contour.

  •

Snap using F8 key to each contour. The order that the contours are snapped determines whether the increment goes up or down.

  •

Snap to the first annotation contour and continue snapping to each annotation contour in the order assigned using F8, for example; If the known contours were 248 and 249 and they were snapped in that order, the first annotation contour would be 250. Subsequent snaps would assign elevation 251, 252, etc.

Snapping a Point to a Line

Additional points along a line can be entered by placing the arrow over the desired location and pressing the F6 key on the keyboard. The new point is interpolated from other points on the line.
