Trench Description

The Trench Description window is used to define the trench parameters to calculate the imported materials into the underground trench.

The Trench Description window displays when adding a new underground Pipe or Lateral structure. The following parameters may be defined.

Bottom Width

Width in inches of the trench.

Bedding Thickness

Thickness in inches of material below the pipe.

Cover Thickness

Thickness in inches of material to cover the pipe

Select Thickness

Thickness in inches of select material above the pipe.

Fill to Grade

Check box if you want the select material to the top of the trench.

Bench Width

Width in feet of a bench.

Flare Point

Vertical distance in feet from the trench bottom to start the Flare Slope.

Flare Slope

Slope in percent or V:H to daylight from Flare Point.

Pipe Wall

Thickness in inches of the pipe wall.  This value will default to 10% of the pipe ID.

Outside Diameter

Thickness in inches of the outside diameter of the pipe.

Inside Diameter

Thickness in inches of the inside diameter of the pipe. This value is derived from the pipe name.

Backfill Compaction

Compaction factor for native backfill.

Ppe Length

Used to display the number ofr pipe joints on a run of pipe or lateral.

When the Trench Description window is closed, the Pipe structure will be displayed along with the material section and multipliers to convert the volumes to cubic yards.

Material

Section

Select

The section is the trench bottom width * select thickness. Example above (3 ft * .5 ft =1.5 cf). The Multiplier converts cubic feet to cubic yards.

Cover

The cover is the trench bottom width * cover thickness - pipe displacement. Example above (3 ft * .73333 ft - .5027 cf = 1.6973 cf). The Multiplier converts cubic feet to cubic yards.

Displacement

Displacement is the volume of the pipe. Example above ( π  * (.8 / 2)² =.5027). The Multiplier converts cubic feet to cubic yards.

Bedding

The bedding is the trench bottom width * bedding thickness. Example above (3 ft * .5 ft =1.5 cf). The Multiplier converts cubic feet to cubic yards.

Spoil

Spoil is the accumulation of all the import materials. Example above (1.5 + 1.6973 +.5027 + 1.5 = 5.2). The Multiplier converts cubic feet to cubic yards.
