Trench Volume Report

The Trench Volume Report display the volumes required to excavate the pipe and lateral structures. The report includes the total excavation, native backfill, bedding, cover and select materials.

       The Trench Volume Report window displays when click the TV button on the report window. A description of the report is listed below.

Structure

Name of the Underground structure.

Surface/Strata

Name of the surface used to calculate the trench volumes.

Color

Color of the structure.

Type

Type of Underground structure (Pipe or Lateral)

Phase

Phase of the Underground structure.

Class

Class of the Underground structure. Default classes are Storm, Sewer and Water. Underground classes may be added.

Measure

Total length of the pipe or lateral.

Excavate

Total excavation of the trench based on the reference surface.

Native Backfill

Volume of the original excavation used as backfill.  This volume excludes all bedding, cover, select and volume of the pipe.

Backfill Compaction

Compaction factor added to the Native Backfill.

Backfill

Total backfill volume including compaction.

Bedding

Volume of bedding material underneath the pipe or lateral.

Cover

Volume of the cover material around the pipe or lateral

Select

Volume of the select material above the pipe. If Fill to Grade is used (SS 6" Pipe), there will be no Native Backfill.

Export/Import

Total volume of export or import required to complete the trench excavation.

 

Trench Volume Report Calculations

The trench volumes are based on the Trench Description defined for each Pipe or Lateral.

We will examine the trench volumes for the SD 8" Pipe based on the parameters above.

Native Backfill

= 611.1 - (38.74 + 49.01 + 77.49 + 12.98) = 432.88 cy (Total Excavation - (Bedding + Cover + Select + Pipe Displacement) See below

= 1.15

Backfill

= 432.88 * 1.15 = 497.81 cy (Native Backfill * Backfill Compaction)

Bedding

= 697.38 *.5 * 3 / 27 = 38.74 cy (Measure * Bedding Thickness * Trench Width / 27)

Cover

= 697.38 * .8 * 3 /27 - 12.98 = 49.01 cy (Measure * Cover Thickness * Trench Width / 27 - Pipe Displacement) See below

Select

= 697.38 * 1 * 3 / 27 = 77.49  cy (Measure * Select Thickness * Trench Width / 27)

Export/Import

= 611.1 -  497.81 = 113.29 cy (Total Excavation - Backfill)
