Data Orientation

More often the not, the roads and pads of a job site do not run exactly North-South and East-West. Earthwork 4D can enter data by temporarily changing the coordinate system based on a line segment that runs parallel to the data to be entered. Any data lines drawn subsequently will follow this new coordinate system. Below are the steps to entering data lines in the same coordinate system as the existing data when the Status Bar Display is set to Discreet Distance/Angle.

Place the arrow over a line that is parallel to the data that will be entered.

Press the F12 Key on the keyboard. The line displays a yellow diamond at each end. The job is now setup to use these coordinates for data entry.

Select Discreet Distance/Angle from the Status Bar Display submenu under the Options menu.

Move the crosshair to the first point of the line and press the Left Mouse button.

Move the crosshair away from the first point and enter the next point. You will notice how the angle snaps to new coordinate system. Subsequent points are entered at 45° increments.

Pressing the X key on the keyboard resets the program to the original coordinate system.
